The secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemned Israel's attacks against the Palestinian people and stressed the need for cooperation and coordination among Islamic countries to adopt a joint response to the aggression of the Zionist regime, according to the Iranian foreign ministry.
The OIC secretary general welcomed the Iranian offer to hold the extraordinary meeting. He emphasized that he would inform the foreign ministers of the member countries about Iran's proposal and emphasized the need to help Palestine.
Amir Abdollahian, and his Iraqi counterpart, Fuad Hussein, had a telephone conversation on Sunday to discuss bilateral relations and exchange views on the current developments in Palestine.
During the conversation, the two sides emphasized the need for coordination and solidarity among Islamic nations in supporting the oppressed Palestinian people.
They urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to hold an emergency meeting to review the current developments in Palestine and provide support to the Palestinian nation and the Al-Aqsa Mosque against the aggressive actions of the Zionist regime.
The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed the legitimate right of the Palestinian nation to resist aggression and occupation.
The Iranian foreign minister also held talks and exchanged views on Monday evening with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on the developments in Palestine.
The Iranian foreign minister said all Islamic countries are duty-bound to stand by Palestinians and protect the Palestinian nation’s rights, stating that the escalation of crimes by the Zionist regime has led to a complicated situation in Palestine and the region.
Qatar’s foreign minister denounced the Zionist regime’s crimes and said his country has always been a supporter of the Palestinian people’s rights.
Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stressed that Western governments should put the Zionist regime under pressure to cease its attacks as soon as possible.
The Iranian and Qatari foreign ministers also emphasized that Islamic countries should continue consultations and keep consensus with the aim of supporting Palestine
In his phone conversation with EU Foreign Policy chief Josep Borrell, the Iranian foreign minister pointed out the extremist and inhuman actions by the Israeli regime’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people in recent months, and stated that the reaction by the resistance was part of the response to the crimes.
The Iranian foreign minister slammed the Western inaction in the face of the Israeli regime’s systematic crimes against Palestinians.
He said, “If Europe and the West had distanced themselves from double standards and had reined in Netanyahu’s crimes, perhaps Palestine would not witness this situation.”
Amir Abdollahian stressed that the international community should make efforts to defend Palestinian rights.
The EU foreign policy chief, meanwhile, expressed his views and said, “We were critical of Netanyahu’s behavior, but now we have to think of realization of peace.”
